What we do
Most of what we are called for is one of two things: a tree that needs to come down, or a tree that needs weight taken off it before the next storm takes the weight off for us. We will tell you honestly which one you have. If a tree can be trimmed instead of removed, that is a smaller invoice for you and we will say so out loud.
Whole tree removals including the tight ones over a roof, a fence, a pool or a power drop, taken down in sections and lowered on rigging rather than dropped. We haul everything off and rake the site before we leave. Price depends on size, lean and what is underneath it.

Deadwooding, crown thinning, raising limbs off a roof or a driveway, and taking weight off a heavy side before winter. This is the work that prevents the emergency call, and it is roughly a fifth of the cost of the emergency call.

Trees on a house, across a drive or hung up in another tree. We answer after hours and we work the day after a windstorm until it is dark. If the tree is on the structure, call us before you call anyone else, because the insurance adjuster is going to want photographs before anything is cut.

Ground eight to ten inches below grade so you can sod or plant over it. We can grind a stump we did not remove, and we do a fair amount of that. Chips can be left in the hole, raked flat, or hauled off if you want the hole filled with topsoil instead.

We will chip a pile you cut yourself. People clear a fence line over a weekend and then find out the county will not take it, and that pile sits there for two years. We bring the chipper to it and it is gone in an afternoon.

What it costs
Every one of these depends on the tree, so the only honest way to price it is to stand under it. What moves a number up is what is underneath the tree, not the tree itself: a hundred foot cottonwood in an open pasture is cheaper to take down than a forty foot maple three feet off a roofline, because one of them can be dropped and the other has to come out in pieces on ropes. We give the number in writing before we start, we do not ask for money up front on a residential job, and we do not add a fuel charge. Prices here are illustrative for this preview.

The thing worth looking at in these photographs is not the tree. It is the lawn afterward, whether the beds got crushed, and whether the site was raked. Anybody with a saw can get a tree on the ground. Getting it out of a back yard without ruining the yard is the part you are actually paying for.

Everyone who climbs here is on our payroll, not a day-labor crew that changes every week, and we carry both general liability and workers comp.
